Cochlear Adult Simultaneous Bilateral Study
Cochlear Americas completed a study involving 33 participants who received bilateral cochlear implants during the same surgical procedure, known as simultaneous bilateral cochlear implantation. The study consisted of the following tests:
- Speech Testing
- Sentences in Quiet
- Words in Quiet
- Sentences in Noise
- Localization Testing
- Subject Questionnaires
Adult Study Conclusions
- Adult subjects demonstrated significant improvement in speech understanding in noisy environments
- Adult subjects demonstrated significant improvement in speech understanding in quiet environments
- All subjects demonstrated improved localization ability
- All subjects report significant improvements in performance with two cochlear implants
